One Year – Day 148 (2009-09-12)
It was one year ago today that we went to the RSPCA to pick up our new family members. We had gone in a couple of weeks earlier to look at the cats up for adoption. Fiona had been looking at Mr’s (then called Maverick) photo on the online adoption site for a while and had already fallen in love with him due to his perfect little nose, but we had told he was a boisterous cat that probably wouldn’t like being indoors. So Fi had originally given up on him and we looked at a small female.
On the way we decided that since we are out a lot maybe 2 cats would be better so they could keep each other company and have a playmate. We then went downstairs to the kitten room where the younger cats were waiting to be desexed and processed, the second I walked in there Missy picked me out. There were lots of kittens there all vying for attention but something about Moo was different. I knew instantly she was the one I wanted. Because she hadn’t been desexed yet there was a two week wait for her to be processed.
During that time Fi was still miserable about Mr. Then in a phone call to the officer Fi was told that the 2 girls weren’t getting along very well but Mr. and Moo were. That was all Fi needed to hear, she wanted to swap. The problem was some other people were coming in the next morning to look at him. This of course meant a very sleepless night for Fi. The next day she was on the phone asking if he was still available, and after a few anxious seconds found out he was so she instantly put him on hold. Now I should point out the RSPCA normal don’t put cats on hold over the phone, but this is generally for people who have seen a cat on the site and have rung up cold. They want people to meet the animal first not just look at a picture and decide.
So finally the date had arrived – Friday the 12th of September. I had walked to the RSPCA to start the paperwork and Fi was going to meet me there a bit later after she had finished work. I went do to the cat room to visit Mister and there was a couple there in specifically to look at him (he was still on the website at this point). I was quite happy to inform them but sorry that one already has a home.
Today’s photo is one of the earliest I took, upstairs in the RSPCA office just after both cats were packed into their enclosures. Mister was looking around wide-eyed and Moo just wanted out of there. Fi turned up soon after this photo was taken. The paper work was eventually complete and we were off home. In the car again Mr sat there quietly but still very alert, he was on the backseat. I had Moo’s enclosure on my lap to try and calm her down. Fi was also trying to comfort her and started saying “it’s ok Missy Moo” and just like that she was named…..he took a bit longer.
So one year, its a decision I’m very happy we made. Stay turned for more photos.
